All of the global challenges that we work on locally are too complex to be addressed by a sole agent. Thus, all of our projects include the participation of multiple stakeholders of the different sectors (government, civil society, academia and business community). PIDES has a vast experience in strategizing and facilitating these collaborative platforms that have resulted in one of the main factors that lead to an accelerated change in cities.
We believe that the only way to innovate urban processes, policies and tools is through an ongoing experimentation and iteration. All of our programs include pilots and case studies that allow us to test and prototype our theory of change and hypothesis. From the design of each project, we include a methodology that integrates the stakeholders that will enable the scaling of the prototype city wide. These actors are normally public institutions and thus our interest in collaborating strongly with them from the start. We have various case studies where our pilots were transformed into policies and legislation, allowing thousands of citizens to benefit from them.
Our different programs include a multi-level intervention strategy which tries to go beyond dealing with a symptom of the problem and address the root causes. This includes interventions such as capacity building for decision makers, culture change, community empowerment, ecosystem strengthening, policy design, strategic use or development of technology, re-design of administrative processes, city to city international knowledge transfer platforms, and implementation of specific thematic case studies to take the concepts developed to the ground and measure impact in the lives of people.
Our theory of change lies in the belief that one of the strongest ways to catalyze true sustainable impact is impulsing transformations from inside the institutions. We call it demand driven change. And, knowing that the government is one of the main actors that drive public change, we focus our efforts on building capacities, strengthening skills, presenting international case studies and enabling peer to peer conversations among cities and institutions that inspire, share knowledge and tools and impulse changes from within. We are very passionate about helping local governments become more responsive, have better ways for public participation and engagement, develop policies based on data and become 100% citizen oriented and innovative.
Our interdisciplinary and young team helps us think outside the box and propose new ways to address urban challenges. Innovation for us is redefining processes and improving the lives of people in a faster, easier and more profound way.
We know that the power of technology is exponential and allows a democratization of participation and impact. This is why we integrate it strategically as a tool in our projects, balancing always innovative online and offline tools to achieve our goals.
